Just went to use the RR to nip to the shops and greeted with "Gearbox Overheat" message. The engine appears to be disabled as it won't start, won't even turnover. It's not a flat battery or anything as the lights don't dim when you try to start the car. It's a 1998 DSE manual. Tried to see faults via my Nanocom but it keeps saying that it can't communicate with the ECU despite trying with the key in various positions. I'm now wondering if the manual gearbox even has an ECU? I'm guessing the sensor is a likely starting point. Any ideas would be welcome.

Further update. Plugged the Nanocom in and checked the BECM settings. Don't know how but it had set itself to "left hand Drive" & "automatic gearbox". I changed the settings back and the fault message has now disappeared. The RR now turns over but won't start. I've tried jump starting it as per the manual and although it then turns over a lot faster it still doesn't fire. The Nanocom says the Immobilizer is disabled and I've done a re-sync but no result. I'll try fuses next to see if that is the problem.

Wet carpet in drivers footwell, fuse bix or battery voltage low. Or sounds like the re-sync was not succesfull.

Final update. Re-did the sync as suggested by Datatek and it now starts. I have no idea what started it all off or how the BECM reset itself. I do have the infamous burning smell in the fusebox but no visible signs so it might be that. Bit of a quandary now on whether to keep the RR or not, it's been pretty reliable for the last two years except for the water pump impellor shearing. Probably keep it.

Get a new fuse box, one for your year and fuel type.:D
