My gear box is done.
No chance of getting a proper trustworthy rebuild in the Bahamas so I have to replace.
I would hate to have to send the core back as it would cost a fortune.

What are my options on getting a good gearbox for my 1998 300tdi/90 ?

Thanks.

It's got to be worth a call to one of the rebuild firms - and of course check with Mr Martin on here. See if they can source a suitable box for you, rebuild it and deliver. Alternatively, ebay for a suitable box, get it delivered to some friendly type on here (ideally living near a rebuild firm) and then onward to rebuild firm and delivery. I would also be Googling for a decent rebuild place in Miami or thereabouts. There must be a Land Rover dealer somewhere in Florida - maybe even a club?

I think it's fair to say Ashcroft have a good reputation. There will always be people who have had problems with almost any firm, but they have been around for many years, and I have seen plenty of people on here using them. I have not used them myself, I should say, my opinion is based on 20 years of ownership and years of seeing them mentioned on forums/fora.

There are parts in the US but believe it or not, I can land parts in The Bahamas cheaper from the UK.

My choice at the moment is Ashcroft or Famous Four.
I have been dealing with Famous Four for years and their service has been excellent.

Ashcroft are great they did my box last year, though I am in the UK! However I have read very positive things about them shipping as far as Australia for reasonable cash.
