Another job that's needing done to my L322 is the gearbox oil needs changed.
Now my transmission fluid temperature sensor isn't working, do I need to replace this first? What affect does this have on the vehicle?
The garage that had it plugged in to the computer said it was reading minus 50. And to top up the gearbox they need to know the temperature inside.
They quoted £276 to change sensor, new filter and oil in gearbox. Is this a fair price or can I do this myself?

I've done a search on here but can't really find the info I'm after.

That is a good price....

Filter alone is £45 odd, fluid is expensive as you need to use the specific correct stuff....I did my V8 box and that was over £120 in fluid from a cheaper supplier

And they are right, the gearbox oil level needs to be checked at 40degC to get the correct level.

You think I'd be as we'll paying them to do the job. I actually have the money sitting. Just wanted to know if it was a fair price and or worth the hassle doing it myself.

Take a look at my How To in the How To section....it is not difficult, just messy and you need a method of refilling the box once it is drained, you have to dispose of the old fluid and filter correctly, you need to raise the vehicle to get under it, and yet it has to be level too to be able to get the oil level correct.

If you can afford someone to do it for you then happy days!!!

I'd ask them to save the fluid for you to see as the quality of the fluid and filter can give an indication of box condition!

Had a look at your how to Saint, I doff my cap,:praise:

I'll take it to the garage as I'm unsure of this temp sensor issue, I know it's location is in the loom, inside the box, so I'll leave to them to sus it out.
