What kind of oil do I put in my gearbox? I'm planning to drain and refill, but I want to make sure I have the right oil at hand first.

I attached a screenshot from the workshop manual page that lists lubricants. (If you look closely you can see that I highlighted the section for my gearbox.) It recommends a bunch of 10W40 and 15W40 varieties, which sounds exactly what I put in my engine, but can that be right? I've got some fresh engine oil in the garage, but is that really what it wants?

The screenshot is too small to see. What model year / gearbox ?

1984 to 1993 use ATF. 1994 to 2007 use MTF94, dunno about the Ford engined ones.

LT77 and LT77s use ATF. R380 use MTF94.

Cheers,

Not sure why the uploader is resizing my image to be so small... sorry I should've checked. It's just as well though, because I highlighted the wrong gearbox & suggestions.

I have the LT85 5-speed gearbox for the 1987 V8. The entries in the row of suggested oils are things like "Catrol GTX 15W/50" and "Halvoline Motor Oil 15W/40."
