Freelander 2 (LR2) Gearbox oil leak

Hi I changed my engine oil last week and noticed that there was oil droplets on my gearbox.I wiped it clean.if there is an oil leak from the gearbox gasket would it be a good idea to use some gearbox leak stop or take it to a garage to be sorted.thanks

My opinion of leak stopping methods really are temporary.
A temporary way to more problems. Imagine all the oil ways it could block.
If you intend keeping the motor get it fixed.

if its on the bottom of the box where it joins to the engine , it could be from the intake pipe on the top of the
engine,where the oil mist collects and leaks from the joint and then runs down the back of the engine.
or I could be talking b******s as usual.

The best thing to do is post some pictures of the leaking joint.

However I don't normally make work for myself, if the leak is more like a creep. Oil will creep its way out of the smallest of holes, which is what it's designed to do.

So unless the leaking is actually dropping oil out on the road, it can normally left to get worse, as long as the gearbox fluid level is maintained.

Thanks for replying. It was just droplets that I noticed when I was changing my engine oil. Under tray didn't look wet i am probably just over reacting I will check the oil level this weekend

Sounds like a bit of creep, rather than a leak. Just keep an eye on it, and make sure the box oil is up the the correct level.

Oil creeping is actually quite common, and no real cause for concern, until it starts to drip.

I checked the gearbox oil level this morning. That seems ok. Possibly creep like you said. I've put a couple

have a look at the intake pipe that runs across the back of the engine,look at the joint nearest to the steering wheel,
and see if there is any oil dripping from it. just to rule out it is not coming from there.i am not saying it is the cause of your problem,
but it is where mine was coming from and ending up in the same place.

Thanks for the advice I've just checked it out and it is bone dry also took the sump cover off again and got underneath and shone a light up the back of the engine. Nothing wet around there. Thanks for your help in this matter I will keep an eye on it and see what happens.

no problem it was just a thought.
