i have today noticed a leak coming from a small radiator located just behind the front bumber on the passanger side almost directly infront of the wheel...i dont know if the leak is from the rad or the pipe..does anyone know if this is a common fault? or is it just my luck...and does anyone know how it comes off and where i can get a replacement..

any help/advice appriciated..
cheers

It's not a rad, it's the intercooler, it's got a drop of oil in it, that's all.

Just needs taking off and flushing out.

It's the norm.

its very very small for the intercooler, and the pipes on it go nowhere near the air intake or the turbo, they appear to go into the gearbox, thats whii assumed it would be a oil cooler for the gearbox hydraulc oil... i thought that the intercooler was mounted at the front diectly behind the grill??

dont know if your able to work th upit...its a bit dark....tats the hole where thefog light suld be, minedosnt have fogs, i tok the cover off to look...so its sitting directly behind that cover on the passanger side...

you are correct, it is the gearbox oil cooler. that is why the auto DSE's dont have fog lights (but the manuals can have them) as that radiator was stuck there (apparently there is a conversion kit if you want the fogs for an auto).

Anyway, is the leak coming from the pipes or the radiator itself?? I haven't run into this problem so not really sure what advice to offer. From memory of being under my P38 at the weekend I think the pipes going to the rad are all metal?? If they are then its probably the radiator or the connections.

If its anything like the engine oil cooler then it could be a complete bugger as I know with my engine oil cooler I have had to have the pipes and the radiator both replaced as when I tried to remove the pipes from the engine oil radiator it just stripped the threads (this is because the radiator is aluminium and the connections are steel), luckily I had been forewarned of this and was ready with replacement radiator as well as pipes.

how much is it leaking?? my engine oil cooler pipes leaked for quite a while before I replaced them. it was only when it started dripping onto the driveway I did something about it. If it isnt really really bad then you will probably be able to get away without replacing for a few weeks but I wouldnt leave it too long if its dripping onto the drieway.

HTH

cheers wills, yeh its dripping quite a bit on te drive way and i noticed its a bit slow selecting gears and making a sall rattle so i parked it up and its staying ther till it gets fixed. i cant afford a new gearbox lol

so a day today on public transport which was trumendous fun, luckily im not at work now till tuesday...

im not sure if its leaking from the rad or the pipe, is your pipe meta right throug? i have got a few rubber connections in mine which are compression fittings n nuts and bolts...i was surprised to see them but thought they might have been for purpose of expansion? i dont know...
im about togo out and clean it all off with some break cleaner and try to locate the leak..

i got a quote for new pipes and cooler from landrover today at 359.00 inc for all part...which i thouht was a lot...any ideas where i can get cheeper bits?

cheers

Got the same problem, it`s my cooler thats leaking think it happened off road but not sure, it has`nt been much of an issue for me just a small drip hardly noticable unless i`m underneath i would check the fluid level incase that rattle you have is something else.

Wills where did you get your oil cooler and pipes and how much?, i don`t have the cooler just the pipe going in a loop.

well i changed the engine oil last week, im thinking now it must have been a stone chip or something thats ht and damaged the radiator.

is it cheeper to buy direct from landrover for parts or is there somewhere i should be getting my parts from?

cheers

well i believe i have found te leak, its not from the coolerbut from the pipe im not sure if its feed or return though...

can these be repaired, as its a rubber connection...i know people like pirtek do hydraulic hose repairs, but thats industrial, is there somewhere i can go to get that one repaired or is it a new hose?
also how do i fill the fluid back up in the box? and how do i know when the level is right?

thanks for the help

Hello. I have the same problem on mine. I have'nt got round to fixing it yet.
To check the oil level you need to first make sure it is in park with handbrake on. Start the engine and move the gear selector from park to 1 and back to park again. Leave the engine running and remove the dip stick (On right hand side of engine at rear). Wipe the dip stick with a clean cloth and put back in and remove again. The oil level must be between the two holes. To top up you need to get underneath and squirt the oil in from the bottle through the oil filler/level hole.
Hope this helps.
P.S. Download the free manual in the R.R forum. It will show you how to do things like this.

I got the parts through my LR specialist. He ordered them for me. They came from Britpart which is a trade only outlet I think.

Im not sure on the price as I cant find the invoice. Will let you know when I find it.

i got mine through a specalist, both pipes and the rad came to £322 including vat, if yours is the dse, then you should have a cooling rad behind the foglight cover on the passanger side, if its not then im told that they are wedged behind the radat the front, i wouldnt have thought you will only have pipes, my rad gets bloody hot and im pretty sure if i only had pipes with that temp the gearbox would probably self combust haha.
