Hi RENRUT,

Can't be of help but I'm sure someone will ask you what kind of car/gearbox it is that you have. Besides this has been covered a couple of times in the past already. Did you try to do a search on gearbox oil change or so ?? Good luck.

Hi i think the best thing to do is buy the Haynes manual. Its a lifesaver when you try and do anything yourself. So In brief, there are three diffrent oils and three oil changes. main Gearbox. Buy 3 litres of specified Landrover oil from the landrover dealer.(You will need just over 2 litres, the third is usefull to keep to top up in future) Whilst you are there get the copper sealing washers. A must if you dont want leaks ( 5 in all and all diffrent sizes!) . Jack up passendger side front and take off road wheel. The second id the IRD gearboxe. you will need to gain access from under the drivers side. Your manual will specify the oil needed and quantity. This one is a tricky one as to undo the toping up nut is quite hard. You may need to take the engine undertray off, though i never do. The third is the rear diff. Top up only. There is no drain plug for this. Access from under the rear of the car.
Onle golden Rule to remeber, is always undo the topping up nut first. Never do the drain one first as in the eventuallity that you cant undo the toping up one, then at least the car is still drivable. Seriously buy the haynes manual, it explains it great with photos to boot.

thanks jms1, i shall call at halfords and L/R dealers for the stuff and attack the beast at the weekend.

Hi Renrut, I forgot to say, also very useful, is to get a syringes from any animal feed place / vet / chemist. Then place a bit of transparent tube on the end. This will help no end putting the oil in each gearbox, with out making too much of a mess. Get the biggest syringe you can. If you use it for all three oils, make sure you clean it out so as not to mix the oils. Use paper towel for this. Trust me it really isent a big job, as long as you know what you are looking at, hence the haynes manual.
Good luck.
