Happy new year all!

Now a few days ago i lost 4th and reverse on my auto ZF gearbox.

The next morning i went out to the car and id lost all drive completely.
Today i have changed the gearbox oil, and the screen filter inside and refilled. I have 1st, 2nd and 3rd, but NO forth or Reverse still.

If in drive, and i flick the stick into 3rd it drops to second instead?

Any ideas?

When i Rev in Reverse i can hear something in the gearbox trying, but nothing happens :(

The main forward and reverse clutches are selected mechanically by the lever, if it's failing to select there would be no drive, likewise if it's the pre-electronic mechanical selection box you would also get the wrong gear in other positions.
I suppose it's got enough oil in it?
Try a PM to james martin he's the auto box guru.

It drives and pulls fine in 1st, 2nd and 3rd.

How many clutch's are in it? If theres 2 would this mean 4th and reverse use the same clutch?

What was the oil like when you drained it did it smell of burnt clutch and was it a nice clear red or a dirty brown?

The linkage from gear selector to autobox is mechanical on a classic.
You having nothing to loose by checking all is well in terms of linkage connection, however...
It sounds like a clutch pack has gone awol. Changing the fluid n filter probably moved the crap around in there, but ultimately it's probably time to get a replacement box.
