Need some one with more knollage than me!! We have a 110 Defender (300tdi) The gearbox/transfer box are u/s. The engine done a lot of miles + cant find a box at reasonable money anyway? We have chance of a 200 tdi Disco with a very good engine/box's any one put me rite as to how difficult this transplant would be & if too difficult what would be the best route to take? i.e what other gearbox would fit with the minimum messing about

Tbh I looked at that thread but not sure how different a 90td it from the 110 300tdi? Was kinda hoping some of the lads that know loads would jump in & put me rite but thanks anyway.
 
try these guys they were always good with me.

Thanksd for that but tried them, they dont have one. Cant find a 300tdi Defender box apart from one on ebay that they cant verify as too condintion. Have chance of a 200tdi Disco but cant find anything out ref transplanting it? found thread on a 90td with 200disco but dont know if similar. Sure some clever sod will see this & put me rite. Ta anyway.
 
It would be easy enough but you would need to change some bits and pieces.

The change in engine/gearbox arrangement would require engine mounts being moved.

As for the gearbox, the R380 in the Defender has a long inputshaft/bellhousing however, so does the LT77 in the disco BUT it's still slightly different, by about 30mm, so this brings the 200tdi back a little (there will be space as the 300tdi sits quite a bit forward in the Defender). The transmission tunnel is a little different on the R380 but I think you will get the LT77 into it, failing that, mod it or get an LT77 cover.

The most important thing is that you keep the transfer case in the same location, and then your props etc. will remain unaffected.

The best route is to get another Defender (not Disco) R380 box with Tranny - End of.:)
