I am looking after for a friend a R reg. 4.6 HSE Auto Range Rover. I start it every week on my drive and move it around a bit. No tax/insurance etc.so cannot take on road. All OK until last week the battery seemed dead and a message "Gearbox fault" appeared on info screen. Called AA to charge battery. Patrol arrived, said try starting before any other action and, hey presto, started perfectly. Panic over - until this week. Went to start as usual, but nothing again, and the same "Gearbox fault" message appeared. Also, when locking up, the door locks clicked continuously until I finally disconnected battery.

Help please, before my friend returns to pick up his car.

A bad or a weak battery will cause the vehicle to display "gearbox fault" as the sensors are not getting a healthy 12 volts, put a new or a good strong battery on it and i think you will find it will cure your faults.

I am looking for a handbook for 1998 4.6 HSE Ltd Edition Auto Range Rover. Any help will be very welcome.
