Hiya guys, all of a sudden I've started getting a warning sign coming up saying 'Gearbox fault, reduced traction' nothing seems to have changed and everything feels ok. Can you suggest 1/ What might have caused this and 2/ What I should do about it? Thanks in advance

Does it only show a fault when starting up? If so then it's quite likely the battery is at fault. If the battery is more than 4 years old, then it's best to change it.
Also do you allow the system to start up before allowing the engine to start? This is sensible, especially if the battery is failing.

Thanks for your reply, the warning light comes on after a couple of minutes of the engine running. The battery (as you say) may be the cause though as I've had a 'low battery' warning from time to time. I've only had the Freelander 2 years but the battery may well be older than that. I think I'll try changing the battery first if that's the case as I'm in France so even a diagnostic check may well be difficult to find, expensive (and do I trust French mechanics?)

If the battery is older than 4 years, definitely change it, as it'll only cause problems sooner or later.

You can get LR specific diagnostic tools for under £100 in the UK, so you should be able to get something similar over there. Icarsoft I930 is a reasonable unit for the money, if you can find one.
