Hi,

I need to replace the kickdown cable on my RRC and having tried to remove the gearbox sump, it seems i'll need to also remove the chassis cross member to provide sufficient clearance.

Has anybody done this and can provide any advice? I've read that i'll need to brace the chassis rails with a bottle jack or similar - is this really necessary?

Cheers,

Kieran

Don't know that the chassis legs will need bracing more like pushing apart to get cross member out. A piece of strong 1" I/D tube and a length of 18mm threaded bar and a nut and washers. Put nut and washers onto bar and slide tube over it against washers (grease) place tube and bar on a couple of pieces of 3" by 2" timber on ends to take load hold bar and tighten nut until chassis is pushed apart enough to wriggle cross member out.

Just watch wheeler dealer and ed china did the same with a hammer (copper i think) back then front till it droped out. :D

Yeah just watched him put a £1500.00 gearbox in a Porsche when all it possibly needed was a couple of £10.00 baulk rigs. Or at most a 1st 2nd syncro hub.

yeah that programme is crap...didnt even try to adjust the steering box on the dsco..and so on...but still its not aimed at the professionals, just the dreamers...

by the way big hammer is my prefered choice, along with pry bar and philips screw driver to stuff though bolt holes when realigning on fitting.just remember to put back in the spacer if it has one..( my 2 door has, my 4 door dont.)
