Gearbox change

Need some advice guys...
Customer has asked us about changing over an auto ZF22 gearbox fitted to his 4.0 over to a ZF24.
He is changing both diffs due to towing.
1: is this doable?
2: would any further changes be needed to ecu's or suchlike?
Havent come across this question before so any help would be useful.

Only looked at it on the diesel but it looks doable, not got the time or the cash to try it. On the diesel the same ECU would do the job so I would guess that would apply to the 4.0. The ECU on the 4.6 is different (CAN BUS) but the control is basically the same. Length might be different but that would be accommodated by a different thickness spacer to the transfer box. Don't know if the output shaft from the box might be different, if it is you would need the 4.6 transfer box
Be interested in the result if you try it, might give me the courage to try it.

Boxes are different lengths, not by much, and you will need the converter as well as this is a different size. Ecu should be ok.

There are 2 different size spacers between the auto & transfer boxes so just need the shorter one for theZF4HP24

rear housing you mean ,id be surprised if shaft wasnt different lenght but a while since i stripped 22 and 24 close together to remember

Your terminology is probably better James but it is referred to as a spacer in some of my stuff. As I said the output shaft is probably different so would need the auto and transfer box as a unit
