Gearbox and spotlights

Hi all. Couple of quick and hopefully simple questions. I have a roof mounted spotlight bar with 4 rectagular spots on top. Would it be an MOT failure if I mounted them underneath the bar instead of on top as they would be over the windscreen then??

And, is there any way of finding out what gearbox my 90 has fitted in it. It is a 300TDi motor. Reverse is right hand side and down if that helps any??
