I've been reading some excellent reports and a gearbox additive called "Liqui Molly" Has anyone in the forum tried this product or an alternative. If so did you notice any improvements?

Although Lucas tranny fix is recommended I would suggest adding nothing is a viable alternative! Change the oil on it's own a few times even.

Thank you for the replies. It's a very debatable subject. I did have the oil changed but still seem to be experiencing a problem. I'm going to research it some more and If I do decide to go ahead I will update with the results.

Just out of interest what gearbox are you talking about? Manual or automatic. If you decide to go ahead please do report back it will be good for a laugh. :D

wammers - thank you for the reply. Auto box. Do you know something about this product? I was hoping for information not the source of your amusement...

You have had the information. Lucas is the only thing i would even think of adding to an automatic gearbox. Anything else stands a chance of destroying it. Catch a sticky valve block early and Lucas can sort it, if it's gone to far and burned the clutch plates not even God juice will make any difference. ;)

Lucas does not effect an immediate cure, it took a few long runs before the box functioned normally.
You say you "have had the oil changed" What was the colour of the oil that came out? Was the filter also changed?
You haven't actually mentioned what problem you have with the gearbox.

Yes the oil and filter were changed last year, I was told that the oil looked ok and was not burnt. The problem I have is driving above 60 mph the box seems to refuse to stay in 3rd or 4th, keeps jumping up and down, this also happens any speed above 60mph. Not very good when your doing 70 on the M1. For some reason in forth I also find the engine very sluggish and it refuses to rev.

That could actually be an electrical problem, have you had it on diagnostics?
At 60, it should not be in third, it should be in 4th with the torque convertor locked unless you are going up hill whne it will down shift. Torque convertor lock up occurs at 50mph, you may be confusing the torque convertor locking and unlocking for a shift between 3rd & 4th.

Correct needs to put it on diag.

Nanocom came up with "Torque Converter" fault. My local expert was saying that it was a gearbox fault and confused things. Obviously with the nanocom diagnostic and your advice it does seem like a torque converter problem. Anything I should be looking for or just a case of fitting a new one?
