Is it an auto Steve?
If yes and if its the same as the 300TDI you just prise the surround off, pull the bulb out, one each side, and replace. The spares are easy to get in Halfords or your local independent motor factor

As Richard above, unclip the black plastic suround at the rear then unclip from the front and remove and you will see the bulb holders. Mine were covered by the edge of the carpet and I had to use pointed nose pliers to twist and remove the bulb holders.

The bulb is capless 12v 3watt but I used my spare sidelight bulbs which are 5watt, they are a bit brighter but have had no problems with the extra wattage.

Do manuals have an illuminated gear change also

They can do ... stop the car, open the drivers door and the interior light illuminates the gear lever. Works best when dark.

Simples ... ;)

Should be a 2w according to the manual, I ran 5w's for a while but swapped down to 3w (halfords choice limited to 1.2w, 3w or 5w) cos the selector got hot enough to fry your breakfast on - not a good plan!

that explains the area around my gear selector getting hot:doh::doh:
trip to Hellfrauds for me then, cheers mate

it was the 'burning dust' smell that i noticed 1st, then when i was lookin for that i noticed that my gear surround was pretty hot. thought it was a tired transmission so i refused to investigate it further cause i was scared of the cost!!
