gear selection

hi i have just baught a 200tdi and im havin a problem with second gear, it goes in fine from first to second but when i go from third to second it grinds a bit, it goes in but like i say it grinds.
all the other gears seem to be working ok no other noises.
can anybody tell me what is causing this and a solution would be very much appreciated.

Gearbox out i'm afraid...but as its 2nd gear i'd put up with it for as long as possible, go from 3rd to 1st where possible.

I put up with a very, very bad reverse gear for 6 months! It only drove 2 feet b4 jumping out despite holding as hard as possible..

I'd be on the look out for a good 2nd hand box...i got a cracker for 45 quid. Otherwise its a rebuild yourself or an expensive recon from Ashcrofts.

I take it its a defender/90...and an LT77 gearbox??

Mine does the same just practice your double de clutching.
