gear lever position

hi i have a m reg 300tdi manual, not sure which gearbox is in lt77 or r380. the gear lever in neutral sits between 1st and second gear, all other cars i have sit between 3 and 4 is this normal or does anyone know whats up and how do i fix it?

One of the bias springs just at the base of the gearlever has gone
 
easy to sort out and cheap too :D

when you do do it though lift the gear stick out its socket and check both plastic cups the big one that will be stuck to the gearstick and the one thet the gearstick goes through in the selector yoke ;)
 
4 hour job on a 300 Disco, just done mine as plate busted, and didn't rush it

Thats start to finish, unlocking doors to start to locking when finished, taking centre console out etc etc
