This is what Ive got for my rebuild, waiting on 2.25 petrol coming.
It has been stood in a shed for a few years now, doesnt look to bad and everything moves doesnt seem like anything is seized up.
Apart from cleaning it up and changing oils, what else should I be doing ? dont really want to start taking it apart as I have a habit of breaking things. ??
Thanks Really Appreciate all the help I get from everyone, couldn't do this with out yous lot.

The seals are behind the drive flanges that connect to the prop shafts. large nut in the middle, undo to pull out the flange. On the rear you can remove hand brake back plate for better access. Seals can be pried out with large screwdriver but seal removal tool makes for an easy job. Careful to tap in new seal square, a tube, socket or old bearing outer race make tools for this.
Check out the You Tube, sure to be a good video on this.

Thanks Mate, will find a guide

Lifted it up on bench tonight was upside down at one stage and discovered a leak coming from hole in one of top plates, is that supposed to be there ? couldnt see anymore leaks so not sure whether to change seals or not.
Oil in it doesnt seem to bad but I will change it anyway.
Not sure if it has been rebuilt at some stage or if it is military as there is still a trace of what looks like duckegg blue on it.

Hole is the vent for gearbox and transfer case.
If you look closely under the plate there is a groove cut in transfer case front that is its vent to same place as gearbox.

Some folks drill it larger and fit remote breather relevant if your going to take it into deep water I ford rivers but never to that depth.

Another thing about this is the Oil, I know that the tbox takes ep90 and from what I have read so does gearbox, looking at the little bit in top on pic thats defiantly not ep90 it seems very thin and doesn't smell of it. I know that the later boxes take the ATF stuff, so what Oil I should be putting back in this one ?

Drain oil, if cleanish and no metal flakes fit it and see.
Going to drain it but wont be fitted for a while as it is Rebuild still waiting on engine coming,
I can only see a fill plug on the side . Is there just one fill plug and one drain as cant see anymore ?

The gearbox has a level and drain plug as does the transfer box i.e. it is not one unit

Your 4th pic shows gear box and transfer box joined together. Transfer fill/level is on the back plate, can see it in your pic just under speedo cable. Drain is on the bottom.
Also can see that 3 nuts are missing from the PTO cover plate.

Thanks mate, Just found that is there a seal of somekind behind that, Everything turns smoothly no rattles or cluncks .

Well thought this gearbox was going well untill this, obviously I've gone and made it worse been to hap handed, looks like the dam thing has been welded on. Any ideas how to get it out, or is there somewhere else I can fill it ??
