just found the reason why my gear shift has been so ridiculously bad on my lt77 gearbox (1987 td), so thought id get some pics (sadly bad quality) and write a little how to to help someone out in the future maybe.
its such an easy job but its always nice to kno what you are looking for!

first take all of your matts up and the tunnel cover off. then take the gear knobs off, remove the gator and undo the 17mm nut that holds the gear stick on. it was on bloody tight when i tried to remove it.

then undo all of the screws holding the tunnel on (15 or so) its a BIG cross head screw, i used a bit in a ratchet.

then pull the foam surround off and this rubber gator off the gear stick ( mine was really tight! and was herd to get back on as well), and undo the 4 bolts holding the shifter ball socket. you can see 2 off them here.

this will reveal the shifter socket, with the shiny grub screw half hanging out in my case! i undid the grub screw and took the socket off. then put a load of silicone sealant stuff on the threads, after thoroughly cleaning the threads. this stops the bloody thing rattling loose again!

then when refitting, make sure the grub screw locates in the hole.

then screw the grub screw back in and wipe away excess sealant and let it dry for a few mins, then put it back together, reverse of previous!

hope this helps someone!
