Their is a strange problem with my disco, it is a 300Tdi auto. As I am not that good at transitions (bit of a black art that). when driving my disco when I get to 1800 to 2100RPM I get a bit of a rattle from the transfer box it dose this when stationary or on the move. I can’nt seem to pin it down more than that. Other than it being something lose inside I cant see why it would rattle when not moving.

Na it's not that checked when I replaced the drive shaft donut. Used a stethoscope and probe sound is defanetly in the tranfair box. Was thinking do they have an oil filter like the gearbox. well think it is a trip to halfords for a hayens manual lol.

there nothing in haynes manual to help you and no filter or pump ,if you remove sump you can check gears they run on taper brgs so should have no freeplay input gear, then intermediate cluster which can be nipped up on nut on rear and diff assembly, both outputs use ball brg and leak accompanies wear, are you sure not exhaust box they are double skinned and often rattle, theres more in gearbox to rattle

Ok in the end I droped the transmition opens up the sump and found bugger all wrong hmm the plot thickens. After that putt it all back on and noise stopes strange one that but it has solved it so a result. :wtf:
