 Hi all, 300tdi manual gearbox 1995. When i change into second it sounds like ive just lost all the teeth on the gears .3rd gear no noise just hard to get in 4th a slight grind when going in .1ST OK & 5TH OK.Gearbox not my strongest point so any help much appreciated .thanks dave

How would you know if the clutch was dragging?

It would crunch in every gear.

But just cause it crunches into gear doesn't necessarily mean yer clutch is draggin it could also be yer gear linkages worn, loose, knackered all of the above, delete as appropriate :D amongst other things

Only linkages are for diff-lock & upper-lower box.

Syncros are prone to going on 2nd & 4th gear, baulk rings can go too where you lose a gear and reverse is prone to popping out of gear.

I stand corrected.

I was thinking of clutch dragging and gears being difficult to select which can be caused by several things.

ie leak in clutch hydraulics
faulty slave or master cylinder
clutch disc sticking on grearbox splines
clutch sticking to flywheel
or the one I was thinking about worn Clutch release mechanism:rolleyes:
