Has anybody had any experience of dealing with GB Springs?

I've had a horrible time with parabolic springs on my SWB series 3 and Paddocks have now agreed to give me a full refund.

I have done a bit of ringing around and spoke to a really helpful guy at GB Springs - I was really impressed at his knowledge and willingness to explain the whole process of spring manufacture and how parabolics differ to leaf springs etc.

Anyway, he seemed to be the only person who seemed to understand that the weight distribution of a Landrover was uunequal, and as such the left and right hand springs needed to be of different strength - so I have ordered a full set for front and rear (both handed) for £215 including VAT and Delivery, which I thought to be very reasonable

That said (and probably a bit late seeing as I have now ordered them) but would appreciate any feedback from others who have fitted these?

Cheers

I have these on my s2/3 mongrel and am more then happy with them. They were on my truck when i bought it a year ago and its still sitting level and the flex is really good when out off roading, i'm sure a lot of people will back me up when i say that gb springs are really well made and only really beaten by rocky mountain. If you want a look at mine give me a shout as i also live in somerset.

Thanks Terratology,

Have been doing a bit of canvassing throughout the forums and general consensus is that these springs are probably best value for money out there.

Apart from the stratospherically priced Heystee springs, these are the only ones that are designed to be left and right handed. Apparently GB Springs was set up after British Springs (parent company) moved out of this market.

I had heard good things about Rocky Mountain Springs, but when speaking to them, even they use equal springs to left and right hand side; which in my rather simplistic mind is always going to have a problem with the unequal loading of a Landy - especially with a 17 Stone lump sat in the driver's seat!

I was also impressed by the fact that the guy from GBS (Paul Stone) completely understod the problems that I had, and whilst he said very unlikely that I would have a problem, committed to coming to me to sort it out if there was one - That's what I call service!

Finally it would appear that almost every other spring from the usual suppliers (Paddock, Craddocks, Smaddocks, etc) are all sourced from the same supplier in India - despite what they might tell you?

Anyway enough ramblings - waiting for my new springs now - Lovely colour too (Powder blue should compliment the Bronze Green body perfectly?

So where you to Terratology (as they say around here)?

I'm in High Littleton - so can't be far from you?

Do you not feel that the subtle hues of blue go well with the bold overtones of the green then fanatic?

I fear that I may be drifting into the Gok Wan of the land rover world here - slap me round the face with a wet trout and bring me back to my senses!

Not going to defend the paddock springs, you can tell they are cheapish, but they work fine for me, for my needs. Its an off-roading toy, if it leans it leans, it bounces over stuff fine and has reasonable articulation, so meets my requirements.

If i ever want something a bit better i'll look at GB Springs though :)

cant argue with your logic Mike... But I've always worked on the basis that if somebody sells me something and it doesn't do what they say it will, then I want my money back. If Paddocks said their springs were cheap, but that there was a potential problem with leaning then the decision would be mine, but they didn't so I wanted my hard earned cash back - especially as they have had over £2K from me during the rebuild of this Landy...

Somebody stop me - I'm starting to go off on one again!!!

Well the Parabolics have arrived from GB Springs and have been fitted into place and what a revelation...

Not only were they handed and clearly marked on each spring but they fitted perfectly and now I have the very slightest lean to the passenger side which to my mind is just perfect cos when I get she sits perfectly level and rides like a dream!!!

Paddocks have arranged to pick up the two sets of springs that they supplied me - so happy days

Thinks Paddocks would do well to speak to GB Springs - I mean if GB can provide a single set to me for £215 inc Vat and delivery (cheaper than Paddocks) then surely Paddocks bulk purchasing power would result in decent springs made available to all without the hassle of keep sending things back - I'M sure Paul Stone at GB Springs would appreciate the business if anybody else is looking to replace their springs - Nice colour too!!!!
