Can you twot a cycle helmet out of a gas shock without risk of damaging your hammer.

Problem is that I often drive the truck lightly loaded with just a soft top. A few months a year I load it heavily for camping with hard top and roof tent. I like a soft ride but not bouncy. I'm interested in Heystee's parabolic springs, 2 leaves front and 2+1 rear (helper leaf). I think adjustable shocks could work to get the right dampening effect.
That's why.
 
I'd certainly be interested in how you get on with the changes, because I wasn't really joking - I've driven Series IIIs with parabolic springs (can't remember who made them) and standard leaf springs and because it wasn't back-to-back testing I couldn't say which was better when they were so far from comfortable.

I'm in the middle of a rebuild where new dampers are a given but could be persuaded to buy new springs if your experiment gets conclusively positive results.
 
I think if you are going to do suspension mods then the two that I would be looking at would be:
1 A lockable anti roll bar on the front (like the Range Rover) but perhaps with a hand operated mechnism ts you have front anti-roll on the road but can un-lock it for offroad. i already have free wheel hubs so I have to stop before going offroad anyway. Some Series ambulances have anti-roll bars so the basic bits are about, its a case of cuttiing the bar and making a lock/free collar. (I'm sure its nothing like that simple!)
2 Electic shocks (the ones with ironpowder in the fluid) but only with paras, then you could switch between frim and long travel from inside. I have std springs so the options would be "firm" or "firm" so not much use to me without a spring change,

I will look in to the anti roll bar. There is a guy on Youtube who make his own anti roll bar. As you say, the problem will be to connect/disconnect for road/off road use.
I have never heard of the ironpowder shocks, will look into that as well.
 
rob1miles => Magnetic ride control, is that what you mean? Otherwise I can't find it.
Anti roll bar or sway bar is for higher speeds so it's nothing for me I guess.
 
My series is a camper so its a bit top heavy when the rack is loaded up. Its on standard springs which are firm most of the time but bracking into a roundabout, even at 20 mph, can lead to some serious body roll, I'm used to it now but it alarms passengers. I doubt its an issue on a lightly loaded SMB but I can say with confidence that a well loaded LWB can lean a lot. My ideal would be a front anti-roll bar like the ambulances for on-road with the ability to quickly disconnect it for off road.

Nothing wrong with having anti roll bars front and rear, as long you can disconnect them for off road driving. The shock-system is nothing for me, to advanced. I will keep on searching info regarding adjustable gas chocks. I have sent mails to dealers but no replay :(
 
Someone on the Seriously Series forum had a custom made set of Gaz dampers made for his SWB Series 2, so yes it can be done, no I dont know what the results were. I think they a fairly simple damper, there is only one adjuster that changes both rebound and compression damping simultaneously so only limited options to tune the ride.
