Have a good one, and take pics and vids .. :)

I'm now taking the Disco. Was originally going as gate bitch, just so I could go as we're up in Hawes anyway for a fortnights holiday, but one of the group drivers dropped out so I'm taking his place.

I tried to sound suitably upset for him, but couldn't help feeling pretty pleased! ;)
will do. have 2 camcorder's on the go so ill be knocking out some vid's out lol we r doing Hawes on the way up

Freelanders aren't allowed on Gatesgarth pass.

if you fancy something similar .. but on tarmac ..
( and relatively free of potholes :)
try .. 'thornton lane' between Ingleton and Dent

similar road width .. bends .. gradient ..
( no warning signs for the steep gradient .. which is at the north end of the lane
( i.e . descending if your driving from Ingleton towards Dent ..

same as every road in bradford foooooooooooooked

struck me as far better than any road in bradford ..

worse road i've seen round here was by High Birstwith
( south east of Summer Bridge )
potholes were more like bomb craters ..

I think one of the requirements to get the pass is that the vehicle must have a low range transfer box, the Freelander doesnt so its prohibited :(. I would love to do Gatesgarth in my TD4 Auto, have done Parkamoor & in a few weeks plan to do Stile End, a very steep tricky lane that leads onto Gatesgarth, if that goes ok I might ask if they will bend the rules a little ;)

You would struggle with the freebie anyway due to its length. It will be very tight at best. Official length limit is 100 inch and the freebie is 101.

Right at the end is a sharp 90deg turn through a tight gateway round the end of a farm barn. You cant do it in a 110 or disco unless its bobtailed so a freebie hasnt got a chance.

I've seen videos of Discos without bobtails doing it, it's called Stile end. :)
