I need some new shocks. 2" or 5" extended. What you think I should get?

I do green laning and the odd p&p day, but then also do about 400 road miles a week.

should I get the usual gas shocks? ie, terrafirma or pro-comp

or should I go for cellular foam shocks from brit part

theres not much in it cost wise, so i'll go for the best ones... which seems to be the cellular ones as they hold more oil so apparently do the same job as ones with a remote reservoir - ie, hold more oil so the oil stays cooler.

anyone put me right on this? or give me their experienced opinions or recommendations on these or something else all together?

Cheers :D

I had them on a td5 d2 and beefed up the springs at the same time. Don't need articulation for the soft roading I do. The traction control does a good enough job of keeping the wheels gripping. Improved the handling and towing no end and the ACE had less to do.
The gas shocks I have fitted constantly push the push rod out.
The cellular damp both ways equally.

The local opencast had them fitted to their defenders, loved them but had issues with the rear top mountings, sent some back on warrantee I think

When i bought mine in island 4x4 he refused to sell me the cellular ones as he said they keep coming back!! Buy the Britpart Gas ones and all will be ok, 4 years later they still are ;)

thanks for your replies. forgot to say that i'll be going for a 2" or 5" extended shock but that's very useful to here about the cellular one sbeing returned thanks horse62

Pro comps are ok but take care tightening the lower mount on rear. If you buy them from someone in the know like gwyn lewis they will advise you. They do snap otherwise under pressure. They rust too so keep them clean and maybe a light coat of oil on a rag every so often. If I could afford new bits id get the britpart gas ones but im stuck with cheap used pro comps right now!

Thanks for that advice.

If I go for the pro comps I would be buying from Gwyn Lewis... but it still worries me when I hear of them snapping the mounts off, when others don't (or at least don't so much)

I appreciate that fitting them correctly will be a big help but just bothers me that they will literally give up and die if not fitted just right.

why you think brit part gas? just curious... why not brit part cellular?
