I think I have painted my 90's rear hinges around 3-4 times in the past 15 years. The last time, I thought, was to be the last time for a long time, they were stripped to bare metal, chemically dipped and cleaned and painted with the utmost care.

Well, it lasted around... a year I think.

So I decided to send them in with some balustrade bits I had made to the galv yard, picked them up this morning, some final prep, re-drill the hinge pin holes and using a wide domed bur I shall clean out the excess zinc from the brass bearing holes and get these back on the vehicle with it's shiny new galvanised rear door from SP panels.

Finish is not perfect, but they won't rust, I had about 10 minutes to clean them up a bit before making my drop-off slot at the yard - a bit of an afterthought as usual!

Tempted to leave them bare galv, when I got loads of bits of the 90 galved years ago during the rebuild I opted to leave the rear tub caps around the rear corners and hinge plates raw galv and I like the look, sort of a throwback to the series vehicles but on a 1990 Defender.
