Galvanised original and repaired chassis

I have seen a 1995 defender for sale where the original chassis has being repaired then double dipped galvanised. I have also seen my local galvaniser do a used series 1 chassis. I would imagine this is not as good as a replacement chassis galvanised from new as internal rusting could already have occured. Has anyone experience of this, in particular if the chassis lasted well, by which i mean say another 10-15 years or did it go on to rot from the inside out in next to no time.

the series chassis were single skinned except for odd parts, defender chassis are double skinned in major stress areas which is the problem with trapped dirt and corrosion.
That said galvanizing doesnt work like paint so even uncovered areas survive(a bit like ships having a block of zinc to slow down galvanic corrosion)

Interesting. Do you think that attaching a block of zinc to a standard chassis (available from boat chandlers) would slow down corrosion?

I would think no because its not in a electrolytic fluid, perhaps there is a chemist on here who will know?

no.

This how zinc work on a boat read enjoy and should answer your questions. If your landy was submerged all the time then yes
