Galvanised chassis

Marsland & Richards certainly don't list them. Market too small at the moment. Mine is a 1998 and is as solid as they come.

You could buy a bare chassis and have it blasted and galvanized yourself - Would be much cheaper

Thanks for the help . Nothing wrong with my chassis but it gets used on the beach salt water & sand & disco`s are a bad mix even with a power washer

I have a disco2 td5 02 61k looks and drives perfectly.
the chassis is rotten though, needs plating again and again.
It would be worth replacing with a galvanised one if I could get one at a reasonable price.
Maine dealer quoted £3884 + government theft(aka VAT) not galvanised and probably as cheaply made as the original !

No protection at all on a D2 chassis from new except a crappy thin layer of black paint.

I would certainly buy a galvanised one if they were made, I did ring richard chassis and marshland and both said no current plans to do it as the demand is not there yet and currently they dont have the room.

Buying a used chassis and having it hot dipped would not be to expensive, the problem is your car has to go on a Q plate once its done....which sux...

As far as I'm aware if it's a replacement chassis for said vehicle there's no need to change details, if it were a chassis off a series going under a disco then yes maybe there'd be need for a q plate

That's what I thought...if it's like for like then I was under the impression it was classed as a repair, similar to replacing a gearbox if it becomes faulty with a new one. Even if the chassis is modified, isn't there a point system in place where x amount of items have to be replaced before a Q plate is issued? No doubt the series boys will know more about this!

get the body lifted and th running gear removed and get your own chassis blasted, repaired and galved? may take a little longer but no Q isues

I think if I sand blasted my chassis where would be nothing left but sand. It's a pity 'cus the rest of the car is good as new.

yes offcourse thats an option, but I would rather have a "newer" one from a later car all stripped and dipped ready to go when the other one is removed.

REF the Q issue...... if you read this, unless you buy a NEW chassis, then it goes on a "Q".....offcourse I could be enterpreting it wrong....

Ok, now one makes disco2 td5 chassis now, but Designea Chassis of Doncaster would if they got enough orders. About 15 or 20 would be enough to set up and they could knock them up at about £1400 each. Better than 4 grand, for a non galvanised one from Landrover. That would make my car worth fixing, and better than new otherwise it's scrap at 10 years old.

The original unmodified chassis or unaltered bodyshell (i.e. body and chassis as one unit - monocoque); or a new chassis or monocoque bodyshell of the same specification as the original supported by evidence from the dealer or manufacturer (e.g. receipt).

Taken from that direct.gov website, I believe richard Chassis or Marsland supplied land rover didn't they? Same spec chassis?

if its a chassis off another vehiacle then is a Q if its a new chassis then you can keep the reg
trust me if you fit a second hand chassis (just like you say " The original unmodified chassis") and you let the dvla know you have done this(wink :D) then you will at best have to have a vic and end up with a Q and a new chassis you can order with the original chassis numbers
