anyone good my lectricary my 300tdi disco every once in a while fuse 14 for the rev counter speedo fuel gauge and other dash lamps and reversing lamps pops.Sometimes i can just pop another 10amp in and its sound for months other times fuse will blow as soon as i turn ignition on,sometimes fuel gauge will stay where it was when fuse has gone other times gauge will shoot to the top.Sometimes fuse will be ok until i start up a rev engine, problem is i have checked earths and redone em X 3 but this is one fault that i can not replicate when it is not blowing fuses so never find the fault so now wondering if its damp related but where do i look!

Sometimes one of my headlights stop working could not sus it turned out to be the connector it was the pins in the connector were all lose so we tighend no probs since,

Jut a thought

As well as the reversing ligfhts the fuse serves the speed tranducer on the gearbox.
Have you had a look underneath the car at the cables for the transducer and the reverse lights.
They have been known to chaff on things and wear thro the insulation and short out blowing the fuse.
Worth a look.

This is often caused by faulty tow-bar sockets. If your car has a tow-bar, undo the covers on the sockets and I think you'll get quite a surprise!!!!
They are often full of rust and crâp.

Clean up the contacts and try again.

Good luck

Dave

checked the tow bar socket mate and tank sender also connections around gearbox today i have blown 5 more fuses and no change and have shook and rattled any wires i could see and reach will have to wait for better weather wind is blowing straight up into the garage not much fun as i have to have the doors open otherwise i cant move!
Still no dash equipment working so no change today :(

so today i have removed the binnacle disconnected the wiring still the same fuse blows when i rev to 2800-3000 rpm but sound until then HELP please

Sounds like you've got a short circuit somewhere. :(

Sorry to say your going to have to look very carefully at everywhere that a wire can chaff.

At least you have a starting point though i.e. the lead from the sensor to the rev counter. ;)

I have tried with the wire from alternator disconnected still blows!!!!!!!!!?????????

yes i have a couple of multimeters just cant work out which circuit is causing the problem but if i disconnect the multiconnector by the washer bottle nothing works and nothing blows!

Well that sounds at least like a start. The wires in the connector block will all be colour-coded so you should be able to trace them on the Rave wiring diagrams.

Just had a thought, what about if you bridged each one of the wires on these connectors to it's opposite number (ie from plug to socket if that makes sense) and then check for what's working and if a fuse has blown. Maybe that way you could narrow things down a bit?

still not convinced its not an earth fault ? rather than a short
but its going to have to wait got go out in the past this fault has cured itself quite a few times in the last 3 yrs usually when the sun shines so thinking damp somewhere?
but would like to find out where so i could cure it rather than living with it

Hmm Earth fault as in a live wire going to earth prematurely?..... :D

Earth fault is normally an open circuit negative side of component and rarely if ever blows fuses.

The only time an earth short circuit causes a problem is if it comes into contact with a live wire or connection. Which tends to only happen in WET connectors where there are live and earth wires.......

what i trying to find is the earth connections and wondering if one earth is "bad connection" could this cause a fuse to blow when current flow increases or am i going up the wrong path.
