before i drive over to my car and try and sort it, i need to know about fusable links .........

i had a quick look yesterday, and can see the fuse part, but how much of a fusable link needs to be replaced when it blows? is just the fuse part changeable, or do i need a whole link? cant find the answer on here, Hellfrauds and Paddocks dont list them as parts, and i dont wanna waste my time today if i cant fix it.

This is how LR suggest you do it, but the kit is in excess of £100

The best way is to replace all the fusible links with a engine compartment fusebox from a scrap 300tdi. No recurring problems then.

Remove the battery +ve cable including fusible links and replace with a battery +ve cable and fusebox from a 300tdi. Reconnect the various circuits originally fed thro the fusible links thro the fuses in the new fusebox. Normally about 4 circuits involved but can be more depending on spec of vehicle.
Before you disconnect the fusible links it's worth checking to see which circuit each feeds and labeling them. The fusebox is probably more reliable than the old fusible links because of the normal state of them after at least 16years.
 
the fusable links shown in the LR document are different to mine, mines a 300tdi so has the fusebox under the bonnet with 4 (i think) large fusable links next to the fuses. long metal bars screwed down, with a fuse in the middle. replacing these with normal fuses isnt a great option as i couldnt find a 'normal' fuse yesterday rated over 35a and the ABS pump fuse alone is 40a, so the only option is large blade fuses. this would involve wiring and fitting 4 new holders (£4 each) and buying 4 large blade fuses (£3 each), bit much when i can get the thing i need from LR for less than £4. but it seems its only LR that stock them, Hellfrauds dont, Paddocks dont, local motor factors aint open on a sunday.

Thought you had a 200tdi.
Why don't you just get hold of a scrap 300 tdi fusebox and remove the links you need to fit your car. Readily available.
