I've replaced the egr( I know I could have blanked it ) and now I'm after doing a full filter and oil service. Any tips on best kit to buy would be appreciated and any general advice of order to do stuff. It runs but still chucking out black smoke and going into limp mode but not showing any faults. I would love to be able to use it while doing repairs but sadly not able at the moment.
Cheers

Hi again ☺
Update is I did a service which included oil change , oil filter , air filter , fuel filter I also topped up fluids including power steering and coolants and repaired handbrake light fault. Nothing was simple but I'm still enjoying it.
Altho it's better it still isn't right. A slight misfire mostly in second gear when accelerating and a bit smoke. I've never been able to get up to a decent speed.
Any advice/ideas to concentrate on
Thanks in advance

it would be a very good idea to change the crankcase breather filter if it is still fitted, a lot now have been replaced by the cyclone type which does not have a filter, also there is a filter on the turbo vacuum exhaust line, the one hanging on a small pipe at the back of the engine and looks like a small cheap fuel filter it should only be connected to the breather pipe at one end and the other end is left open to atmosphere. What colour is the smoke ? black is excess fueling and can be caused by a split boost pipe from the turbo to the intercooler or intercooler to the manifold

Cheers Tim. I did see the filter at the back of the engine and is next on the list. The smoke is a lot less than before so will make the changes you suggested thanks and will keep the thread updated. Thanks for your help

I'd check all your vacuum hoses while you are in there. When I did mine I found they had perished. If they perish they collapse under the vacuum. You can buy the hose in lengths and just cut the amount you want. It's not difficult to do, although the hoses to the EGR since you still have it on are a fiddle. Hot water on the end of the hose works a treat. At same time check your big hoses for holes.

Trying to order the crankcase filter and turbo filter online . When I punch in my reg and vehicle details it says the part will not fit my vehicle. Am I doing something stupidly obvious . I'm not to bothered about upgrades just replacing the existing filters

I recieved and fitted the crankcase filters and it has made everything worse. Misfiring like mad and loads of black smoke as well as shuddering on tick over. Have I done something wrong. I was really hoping to drive it this week and get on with some of the other issues. I don't want to put it in a garage as it defeats the object of a hobby. Once again I call on your wisdom
Cheers

when you changed the crankcase filter did you disturb any of the injector electrical connectors or any of the pipework, just changing the filter would have no bearing on the running of the engine as you have experienced it really only stops excessive crankcase pressure build up

Back again :) today I removed the filters I had fitted and refitted taking extra care. It did cure the misfiring but not all of the smoke so I concentrated on the turbo outlet to see if it was putting out oil. I disconnected from the intercooler and put a sock over the pipe to check what oil was coming out. Sock was pretty clean after test and turbo seemed fine whisling as throttle shut off but a bit black smoke from exhaust as revs decreased. So I'm now on the outlet side of things. There is a pipe that has been added to the air intake which comes through the front grill and into the intake pipe.(can see pipe in pic) is their a way of testing dpf or Advice on where to start checking.
Hope this is understandable. Thanks very much for the help

Hi again. I have been watching and reading similar posts to mine to try and fix my landy but to no avail.
I removed all the injectors and had them tested at a reputable diesel place near beamish museum and all 4 injectors failed the test so I replaced them with some reconditioned ones from a place in Manchester.
Although there is a lot less smoke it still begins to misfire and then gives a puff of smoke and reverts back to normal.
I have a air intake pipe missing which I am struggling to source and possibly a bit to much engine oil in after a service.
Would any of these problems cause my misfire and smoke. (Smoke is not black as it was )
I've done a full service .
Replaced egr for a brand new one
Replaced all 4 injectors.
It ticks over lovely and drives fine at first.
I really want to get out and play in it even though I enjoy the tinkering.
Any advice would be grateful as its got me baffled.

Fuel pressure sender and wires?
Had one cause loads of off the self trouble misfire, none start .. and it had the upgrade kit !
If yours has been standing I check that

It starts first time and ticks over lovely and even revs well. It's when it's warmed up and as you put your foot down a slight misfire then a bit smoke then corrects itself. I will look into fuel sensor. I was hoping someone would say it needs foot down run but nowt that simple.

I'd be checking the fuel rail pressure sensor for corrosion of the contacts, unless the overly harness has been fitted.
