Hi all,
Thought I would ask everyone's opinion on this, Before taking the landy (N reg disco 1 3.9 v8) in for its MOT we popped a Fuel treatment additive into a fresh tank of petrol. Now whether Im hearing things I don't know but the engine hasn't got any more power or whatever rubbish they claim on the bottle but it does seem a tad quieter. Now am I believing this just to try and justify spending £5 on a small bottle of kerosene. So the question is do you reckon these "fuel treatments" are placebo's or products that actually work?

Believe it or not it does actually work! One product that does what it says on the tin! Lol

on 5th gear they did it to a bmw I think it was, dinoed it befor and after additive and they got 9 bhp extra after using it!!! 9 bhp! Thats prity darn good for jst a cleaning solution!! But the basic principles their, cleans out fuel line ect so should work but im the same, I never belived in it until I seen 5th gear, and I have to say my bmw 3 and fiat coupe 20v turbo both feel better after using it so deffo wil carry on, , aybe use it twice a year...

I don't use fuel treatment as such in my disco but have use injector cleaner once a year or so when the tick over feels a bit lumpy, any thing that on offer at the time Redex, STP, Winns etc .. soon sorts things out.
I have used a fuel treatment with lead substitute in a classic car I own, only as it now has to run on unleaded but didn't see any difference to running it on super unleaded.

Don't forget, most fuel cleans have a Cetane/octane booster that makes the engine burn cleaner/read more power which aids the cleaning process. This is what also gives the more power feel.
