more problems cropping up!!

i did a search but was unsure of the info i found. anyway its on a d-reg 90 with a 200tdi. The tank holds £25 worth only and fuel gauge says it never goes over half full. surely it should take more? i can squeeze more in but then it leaks through the metal (i think the seam?). any ideas? i can't see where the leak is coming from as its more of a drip but covers everything!

i guess the gauge may be off and me squeezing a bit more fuel in is actually over filling it.

are there any common problems?

also is the fuel tank meant to have protection as mine is very dented!

thanks in advance for the help.

Steve

Hi Steve. Yes there should be a thin (2mm?) plate covering the underside, front and rear. Leaks from the seams are pretty common, can be sealed in situ with somethig like chemical metal or better still, replace the tank. Worth wiping it clean and watching for the weap of diesel to source it.

Not sure why you can only get £25 in. faulty gauge, faulty sender, bad connection maybe. maybe all them dents have reduced the capacity!

right! the bugger is out!! what a horrible horrible job! anyway it'll give me plenty of space to weld new brackets in seeing as the other ones were rotted away!

so i now know it leaks as it was peppered with holes from thin rusted metal. so new tank it is.

my question this time is how to get the new one back in? because i'm pretty sure refit will not be reversal of removal as i bent my crowbar and used the sledge hammer :D

i removed the two bolts at the rear as well as the bracket at the front at the 3 bolts and on the tank. removed the fuel pipes and wires and fuel filler. there just didn't seem room to get it out. was i supposed to rmove more parts like the side rail wotsits?

help very much appreciated.

Steve

edit: ignore me i now know i sould have lifted it up and lowered the chassis rail side first. i basically hammered, beat and battered it downwards

i was showing my girlfriend how weak the metal was with the hammer. then realised i needed somewhere to put 30 odd quids worth of diesel wich was in a plastic box i found in my house  it fitted back in the tank without leaking luckily despite now having loads of massive holes!. just need a new tank now.
