does anyone know what the small pipe from the right hand side of the fuel tank do. I snaped my one off when removing the tank, Can i glue it back on or is a new tank,

tried glueing the pipe back on with superglue and covering it with no nails but just broke off again, this pipe is for the V8 EVAP system. Is it realy neaded for the diesel TD5, it says on rave its a breather pipe, but I already have a larger diameter breather pipe, could i not plug this hole or do i need to repaire or replace it.

please any one knows about this on the TD5 please help as im trying to save buying a new tank

thanks for the idea I have the pipe has broke of flush to the tank, I have tried inserting a smaller pipe into the tank hole and then fitting the breather pipe over it but cant get is to stick very well, I was thinking of trying a resin mix, my only worried is when the tank is full any holes will leak diesel.
I would rather block the hole of completely, I don't see what this pipe is for on the deisel models, The tank is standard to both petrol and diesel, I want to know if i can safely block this hole off.

No , dont block a breather . Another unit from a scrapper would be better , or tap a thread into the hole and use a threaded pipe joiner nipple or a thread-to-barb fitting or even a brake bleed screw and fit the pipe to that . But leave it open . Would be a lot less fuss and probably expense to replace with a second hand unit .

You do want air to enter your tank above the fuel otherwise you get a vacuum and no fuel flow . Even if there are other tank breathers the system is meant to have it so until someone like JM comes along and explains why it would be safest to keep the function .

Come to think , maybe a small diameter brake pipe fitting off a scrap motor could screw in to a thread and link the pipe to the metal pipe stub . Naaaaah , replace it !

thanks shocker. I agree i dont want to block a breather to a fuel tank and a repair is not worth it with the cost of a tank being £35 second hand.
but I dont believe this is a breather for the TD5 it part of the V8 system for emission and i dont see its needed for the TD5, however i would mind having this confirmed by some one.

item 11 is the large diameter breather for the tank. see the small pipe from the tank to item number 8 ( liquide vapour seperator) this is the pipe that is broken and connects to the EVAP system on the V8 petrol model.
If I cant confirm that this can be blocked off then I agree a new tank will have to be bought

thanks for your help anyway some good ideas.

Can you tell us what number on the diagram, your snapped-off bit relates to, is it no. 12?
