Hoping for a few pointers as I'm now at the end of my knowledge.

2000 L series diesel
Just had engine rebuilt after cam belt snapped :(
Cold start has to crank the engine over quite a few times before she kicks
Warm start no problems, half a turn of the engine and she's good to go
Tickover 100%, revving fine no problems

Driving gently 100% fine, but under acceleration to overtake something, it gets to around 60 and then it's like someone has shoved a potato up the exhaust, spluttering and no power. Can't drive through it, but drop into neutral and coast for a couple of hundred yards and the fault clears and you can then drive normally again as long as you don't try and overtake anything :(

So far I've changed the fuel filter as per a couple of other threads.

I've had a look on similar threads but there doesn't appear to be a conclusive solution.

Any suggestions appreciated as it's got me beat :(

First thing I would do is double check the timing of the fuel pump. Known to be a bit fiddley and doesn't take long if your handy with the tools. Are they the same injectors or did you just do a head swap ?

Also check your leak off hoses incase they are split or perished. They might not have liked the move

+ 1. Sounds like a timing issue.

Sounds a bit silly but how long is it since you had the engine rebuilt.

Might not really be your problem if a garage done it say a week ago. Take it back to them if its not right and they told you it was good to go.

Well I will be taking it back to the garage but not until he's not too busy cos its a good friend of mine who hasn't charged me a penny labour. I was kinda hoping it was something simple that I could fix so I didn't have to go back and bug him. I'm pretty sure when he did the head he locked the timing pump but I'll ask him to check it. Thanks again and as soon as its right I'll update the thread.
