hi
is there any way i can fit an extra fuel shut off valve for security purposes??? either a mechanical or an electronic version
regards
steve y

Cut the fuel pump feed wire, splice in a swtich. If diesel the same and/or splice a switch into the feed for the solenoid switch.

Cut fuel line, install small valve.

but this does **** all when the scrotes run live feeds to the solenoid and starter to bypass any immobiliser...

Maybe it'd be possible to fit a standard hydraulic valve to the fuel line under the bonnet...

It'd have to be after the filter though, otherwise i'd imagine the engine would run long enough for them to get away from you!

Hence the suggested switch in the fuel pump wiring, the relay for that is in the footwell IIRC, easily pulled out and slipped in yer pocket. The average scroat isnt going to hotwire anything that is not under the bonnet

Removing the battery is the ultimate switch :)

Personal experience suggests not making life too difficult for the toe-rags, they just get frustrated and cause more damage :)

Diesel I guess from an implication earlier.

Personally, I wouldnt bother too much. A pro car thief will have it regardless if he wants it. A toe-rag who cant start it is likely not going to just wander away, hes gonna be mad and start destroying it in-situ, either by trying to start it, or just by starting on glass, body panels etc out of frustration. I had an "undrive-awayable" disco (the cylinder head was in the boot) so returned home one day to find every piece of glass and light lens smashed, leading to a write off. Even as a mechanic I have seen a few cars that have had fried ECUs and sensors and/or needed 3 days to rebuild the loom where people have tried to bypass security systems. One of those merely couldnt be started because of a flat battery, yet the final repair bill ran well into 4 figures.

A good loud alarm so you can run out with a tyre lever is best.

unless the vehicle is parked in some very secluded location (which I generally try to avoid) , I very much doubt ANY thief will be in there long if the vehicle dont start first or second time.......

A hidden switch in the fuel pump supply would "imo" stop 99.9% of the little fookers.Did this on my bro's XR3i about 10 years ago, you could see they "looked" for it, but never found it and hence never took the car...

Instead of trying to immobilise the car which most people could get round with a small bit of knowledge, why not fit a very loud sounder somewhere in-accesible under the car which operates through a latching relay when say the starter solenoid or the fuel solenoid is energised.
It could be switched by a hidden switch in the car when leaving or entering.
It least if anybody tried to pinch the car it wouldn't be quiet. Plenty of time then to get out with the lump of wood.

There used to be a product on the market about 6 years ago and i think it was called the "autotazer"! it fitted on the steering wheel as a steering lock, if tampered with 1st it would give off a really loud sounding alarm, then after warning you it would shoot fifty thousands volts through it and anyone touching it. You could see and hear the electric when it went off just like a tazer does!

It worked on the same law as electric fences, you displayed a visible warning sign, then if someone "trespassed" then it was thier fault if they get zapped! excellent!

Without the right key for your car they are not going anywhere with it - without a low loader.Lumping a brick through the window and nicking whatever is inside the car is about all they can do.
Leaving the key on the table just inside the front door in full view of the letterbox is the best way for your car to disappear.Hide them under your pillow if you want to keep the car.
