Hi All,

I keep getting a little oily patch after the disco's been standing a while..

It's dripping from the bottom of the axle, and is quite dirty, don't think that's the leak though.. could this be diesel from the FPR?.. by the time it runs through the engine bay, looks more like oil, from picking up dirt etc.. but it does seem to thin to be oil?.. the FPR certainly looks suspect?

What's the FPR like to change, looks simple.. but fiddly?

Cheers

Smell it/touch it/taste it to find out what it is first.

FPR is nothing more than a fiddle I don't think, but it could well be the axle, so check it!

Yeh it does sound as though its ya fuel pressure regualtor.. you'll find that cos its leaking, its spatting fuel in different directions

so it gives the appearance of an oil leak in more than one place

It its a bitch of a job to do,fiddlie & if you got big hands and its in a really tight place, ie under the exhaust manifold

Remember to have ya chassis number handy when ordering the part as there are two variations aqnd it cost about a pony...( £100 ) A good garage will only charge and hours labour if thats the direction you are going

Hand's aren't small..I'm 6'7".. S'why I don't drive a smart car!

Got a mechanic (that I trust - Rare), say's he'll fit the FPR for £50.. sounds like a good deal to me.

It's the 3 piper on my TD5.. £110 ish on EBay

Thanks David,

Have a pretty decent set of tools, including ratchet spanners.. but when I've looked at the job and the bottom bolt of the 3 securing ones looks pretty tricky to get out.. let alone refit.
Had a poke with ratchet, and socket set with a knuckle joint, but i reckon I'll run out of patience and cause more harm than good, like you say for £50 may not be worth getting my hands dirty on this one.

One thing I did notice was that the main fuel feed wouldn't let go although it looks like a quick release collar.. I guess if you remove the part, you could always unscrew the brass pipe on the FPR itself.. but does this sound normal?.. would mean reusing the fuel pipe?

I managed to get at the bottom one from underneath (without axle stands, just crawled under) with a 3/8 extension bar and socket)

Definitely removing the engine lifting eye gives you a bit more space to do it.

I managed to get the QR collar to release but getting the one that sits under the inlet manifold is fiddly - UrbanPanzer's guide suggests using a right angled spanner to depress the QR collar but I did it eventually with a pair of longnose pliers.
