I have been advised by my garage that my fuel pump is on its way out. Symptoms are, lots of smoke on start up, lots of smoke when booting it up a hill, fails emissions on MOT test.

They got it through by tweaking it right down but there was no power at all. I have had a bit of a look around and could not find a place that does either sensible price new or referbished ones. Perhaps I could get mine referbished ? Or maybe just risk buying a secondhand one ?

I presume I have read the advice correctly and I need a defender 300TDi one ? Disco ones are different ?

Anyone offer any advice or have a spare one lying around for sale ??

no disco is the same engine and pump ,you can fit non egr and egr but not connected ,and imobiliser fitted ones (you break plastic box off around stop solenoid and wire solenoid up as normal )but not edc injection pump.they usually cost £400 ish to recondition second hand pumps are normally good but get guarentee

thought about injectors ,checking turbo hoses for collapsing on suction side and splits on pressure side ,waste gate stuck open

its electronic diesel control ,needs edc amongst other stuff to work fitted on some auto discos ,you cant allways be sure about specialists or any mechanic i know quite a few great ones and quite a few **** ones ,normally fuel pumps loose pressure as head wears giving poor starting poor power on tdis but anything is possible not just most common
