Fuel pump or non return valve???

Hi everyone....

I started a thread the other day because my rangey didn't want to start at all!!!

After leaving it for a few hours....and seeing no fuel being pumped from the tank to the filter.....even when the ignition was on....

It started....we thought that maybe there was some water which had frozen over night or something like that.......

Worked for a day and then came out of work this evening....after it not wanting to start this morning...guess what.....it wouldn't start for love nor money.....

There was no fuel being pumped to the filter again...even when the ignition was on or try to crank the thing......

So does that mean its a faulty pump....or I've read it could be the non return valve???

Any ideas please guys?

As far as Iknow there is no no return valve fitted....others have fitted a non return valve to prevent it draining back to the tank....

Most likely is the Lift Pump in the tank....

Usual symptom is poor/lack of starting with less than 1/4 of a tank...

Silly thing to mention its a diesel........

I assumed it was a diesel from the symptoms - they suffer from lift pump failure fairly commonly hence my reply.

There is no Non Return Valve fitted as standard, but they have been retro-fitted by owners...

Itrust you have checked the Fuel pump relay and fuse....

The Fuse Boxes are also a known weak point, take the cover off and take a whiff, if it smells hot/burnt more than likely it is on its way out, also check the relay legs for signs of bluing contacts, this is another sign.

Check the Relay and fuse, and listen and here i fyou can actually hear the pump running ....

The Pump will only run when the engine is cold and/or cranking.

The fuel pump only runs when glow lamps are on or when engine is running. Also when being cranked on 99 on models.

fuel filter blocked ?? when was it last changed

Bacterial growth in the tank is another possibility at this time of year blocking the strainer on the pump. Take the fuel filter off and look for slime
