Hi All

My mechanic recently changed the fuel pump on my Freelander. I got it home today and noticed I could hear what sounded like the new pump working quite loudly as I was driving home.

I don’t think I could hear it before as I was driving , so I’m guessing something must be wrong.

Is it possible I got a faulty pump or could my mechanic have fitted something incorrectly causing the noise?

Thanks

Could be a badly made pipe joint between the tank and the pump allowing ait to be drawn into the pipe. Pump then sounds as though it is priming all the time.

Check the pipe connections, especally the one which pushes on to the pump.

I had same on mine. Turned out to be fuel pipe rattling on bottom of the plastic tray that its mounted in.Take out the 2 arch liner plastic fixings. Turn ignition on but dont start.Pull flap back and put finger on the pipe.If its stops then thats your prob. I wrapped a bit of rubber just to cushion it and worked a treat. Dont no why it started might have been that I pulled a little extra pipe in when fitting.

Done a few of these, always clean out tank totally, it will be full of crap which will be making new pump noisey, its amazing what gunk you find people using red diesel sng chip oil.
clean out works everytime
hopefully you bought pump from eurocarparts at only 94.00
