I've just taken my Fuel pump off my 1974 Series 3 for an overhaul. Bloody typical, everything seems totally different to the Haynes manual or other references I have found! Having ordered an overhaul kit which was labelled like so many parts "For all series 2 2A and 3 Land Rovers" So its totally useless and I've wasted yet more money! For a start the 2 valves inside seem to be fixed into the casting rather than held in by a retaining plate and any attempt to remove them will surely damage something. Secondly the Diaphram rod end is shaped like a T piece. The one I have In the kit has a slot in it so wont fit. This I found out is the later version diaphragm, but even the earlier one has a different keyed shape to this one! Finally the gasket wont fit! So, anyone know what the heck this one is??? Looks exactly the same from outside as a typical series 3 one??? Its a bitter pill to swallow how often these variations have led to me constantly getting the wrong parts. I think its about time a lot of the retailers started detailing there parts more accurately. By the way the kit I have is genuine Land Rover not a cheapie.
