Hi all,

I am hoping someone can offer advice on my best route to improve the power and fuel usage of my 06 RR Vogue. It is the last of the 6Cyl and as the warranty is up this October (and the payments!!! :D:eek::D)I want to spend a few quid on her and make a fuss  (similar process with the wife ).

Does anyone have any advice on Tuning box's or particular mapping products as I dont want any hassle, but I must admit it would be nice to get her going through the gears a little better!

All advice greatfully received!

Sam

give this bloke a ring, his name is matt 07709453760 and does live mapping for the same cost as some tuning boxes, mapping is always better than a mass produced box that just fools the ecu into giving more fuel.

:( Very interesting! I got my P38 2.5 3 yrs ago and soon after fitted a Rimmer Power Box which was advertised as improving BHP, torque and helping on fuel economy. It certainly improved the performance and overtaking and seemd to help the fuel economy.
Recently I have measured MPG brim to brim and it certainly is not what is indicated on the computer like about 25% worse!!
I need to do a control and run it twice brim to brim with the box and then remove it and do the same. I was interested in your comment above and the various threads on fuel economy.
What do you reckon? Keep it on or get rid?

Best start saving for a new gearbox at the same time.:D

True the fuel computer is not accurate with the power box fitted, in my case it over reads by about 2 to 3 mpg, an indicated 27mpg equates to an actual 24.5mpg. Brim to brim I average 25mpg around and about (no traffic here in rural France) and 31mpg regularly on the motorway cruising at 130kph (80mph) I get around 21 to 22mpg with the caravan on tow. Sad I know, but I brim to brim every time and keep a log, an old habit from work days, so the figures are accurate. I have to say that I reckon the fuel economy is pretty good for a 2.5 tonne motor with auto transmission. Much better than the Hyundai Galloper that I had before.

My car is a late year 2000 DHSE with a PSI Power Box fitted. If I could afford it I would go for a re-map.:D Pretty gutless without the Power Box:(

We have been here before. The only way to increase power is to increase fuel flow. If you USE the extra power you WILL use more fuel. Simples.

I passed Poitiers last year on my way to the Gers. My wife was driving and was spooked by the total absence of traffic for at least two miles in front and behind. Bloody lovely! We will be coming to Azay le Rideau on the Loire near Tours the week after next and look fwd to the same driving conditions. Interesting what you say about the box and mpg; I guess I was over optimisitc anyway. I will save my pennies and get the thing re-mapped idc. Ta ta.

keep it on if u want the extra power, take it off if ya want the mpg :D

I wasnt really joking,I reckon the gearbox is just about at its limit with a standard engine tune. All the replacement autoboxes I've done or diagnosed have been on chipped cars.

ok....now I'm listening....would you say that any additional tuning box or mapping would be putting strain on the box? cus if that was the case I will leave well alone! just wanted to make her a wee bit more user friendly. I have a disco 3 and she drives much better and I thought a re-map may help the rangy.

:eek::eek::eek:

my dse was remapped and id recommend it to all, as to whether theres adverse effects on the box i dont know, mine was a manual

I can't imagine chipping puts much more strain on the gearbox than towing the 3.5 tonnes that the P38 is rated for. I suppose if you have a lead boot on your right foot it may be a problem but how often do you use full power?

Ffs, read the post - he is asking about an L322,not an LP.If you cannot understand how an engine making 30 odd % more torque will not put extra strain on the box then you need to go and read some books. Its not like a 2wd car that can wheelspin, the autobox is the bit in the middle, and in this case its pretty much at design limits with the standard output.

Merde alors, read "last of the 6 cylinders and brain went into neutral and assumed P38. I stand corrected, I know nothing about the L322, too new and too expensive for me.

Yep....you need to know what yer at apparently with the old mappin. I got talkin to a mate who I thought was into electronics but apparently he has been re-mapping for the last few years full-time.

He agrees that if the incorrect map is used it can up the torque to a level where it will put strain on the box. He did say however that if the correct map is used (not too rash in his words), and you accept that it isnt going to sit with a cayenne then its a big improvement.

He reckons a good map improves both economy under normal driving as the car gets up through the gears better without over-reving, but also produces better acceleration. BUT...you need to make sure you know what yer doin!!!

I'll give it a whirl and let ye know!

:D
