my mates 300 tdi disco which is a 1994 l reg 3dr has a fuel lift pump problem,so i sorted him a replacement giving all the relevant details,but when we went to fit it the inner arm is too long and wont fit,weve tried allsorts and it just wont fit.are there different types of lift pumps?

what do you mean it won't fit ??? can you compare it to the original one ??

and are you sure its not just on the cam ???
 
See once you have put the pump in, can you force it down into position, which as lrb2 said above just means is sitting on the cam lobe (obviously something has to change in relation to that arm to work the pump).

In which case you have two options, push it down a little, in the process the arm will move and let you bolt it in, or, blimp the engine on the starter to get it off cam and it should go in a little easier (this also lets you square it up easier because your not tightening it against a upward force).
