Just filled her up, and the fuel guage is only reading 3/4, are these things as bad as the series ones (ie advisory only) or is summat up?

also, anyone know the capacity of the 110 tank, so i can work out how many miles i can do before i need to fill up incase the guage really doesnt work properly/

my dads series 2 used to have a backwards fuel guage, never found why, if you reversed the connections, it did nowt, so he lived with F being E and vice versa for years.

is it jumping around all over the place too?

Mine does this, and I believe it's a kink in the breather pipe (or whatever it is, comes from the top of the fuel tank into the filler hose!).

Once it's down to 3/4 full it works fine until you fill it up again, does yours do the same?

If not, then it could either be sender or the guage itself. I'm not sure how to rule either out though

to answer your MOT question, I can't see it even being advisory. How are they going to check?

not noticed, but not done much driving since i filled up, I'll find out tomorrow.

I meant advisory, as in "theres about that much, but its a guess", rather than an MOT advisory, dont think the fuel guage is even on the mot is it?

If it reads normally once it gets past 3/4 tank, I can live with it, an excuse for a nice aftermarket guage though, once I have one, the rest will have to match!!!

Pretty sure the hand book will tell you things like the size of the tank.

When i get fuel i always fill it right up till the pump stops itself. I always write down on the receipt the mileage on the resettable milometer thingy, and then reset it to zero for the next time. This allows me to work out my fuel costs and mpg over time, but also gives me an indication of how many miles i get between fill ups.

Might be an idea to run yours dry (with a gerry can on standy to get you to a garage) and start doing the same. You'll get an idea of how long till you need fuel. Failing that, you'll have to work out whats wrong with your sender/gauge.

Ah fair enough - misunderstood.

If it does work after 3/4, then take a look at the thinner pipe coming from the fuel filler pipe, mine got twisted when putting the rear tub back on and caused what you're describing (though mine goes very eratic too!)
