Hi,

I have a 1999 V8i ES Discovery.

At the weekend, the fuel gauge started sticking. When I turn the ignition off, the needle doesn't drop back to 0, just stays where it is. I added some more fuel and the gauge did go up, but again, doesn't drop to 0 when the power is off.

There does seem to be very slight movement of the gauge when driving.

Would anyone have any suggestions as to what may have happened, or where I should begin troubleshooting?

Thanks,
Mark

That's OK thats how it should be I assume that U have a D1.

In the owners Handbook it states "The pointer indicates the fuel level even when the starter switch is turned off. After refuelling, the gauge slowly changes to the new level when the starter switch is turned to position 2".

I'm not familar with D2s but is the above not similar?

Or there's a fault with the sender/pump unit located in the fuel tank, it's one unit and the whole assembly must be replaced.

both my disco 1's drop to 0 when you shut off the ignition. could possibly be the tank float sticking

fuel guage on 300 series does stay at the fuel level with ignition off and key removed, on 200 series it drops to nought.

must be a great help when the local tealeafs are eyeing up something to whip.

both mine are 200's

Interesting. I am having a similar problem with a Disco 1. Gauge sticks at half way mark .Sender unit ,resistance checked out OK.
