Hi fellas,

I'm having an issue with getting my fuel gauge to read correctly in my 1988 CSW 90, I've tried everything that I've found from using the search...

The original issue was that the gauge never read over 1/2, so I replaced the gauge and this fixed the problem, but as I was replacing the gauge I must have disturbed some wiring behind the dash as halfway during the week after I replaced it, it began reading full all the time

I've double checked the wiring and it all seems connected as it was before I replaced the gauge, there is 2 wires on ring connectors (I'm guessing they're earths for something?) which are screwed onto the back of the gauge (to the thread in the middle). Should these be on here? I've read on here that there has to be an earth running from each thread on the back of each gauge in a daisy chain, but I tried that just in case and it didn't change anything.

I've replaced the sender unit in the tank for a ****part one and it seems to read okay outside the tank (moving the float up and down) but then once it's been put into the tank it reads correctly, until the engine is switched off/on again, it reads somewhere in the red. It doesn't seem like it's catching on the fuel/return pipes in the tank. It's a side tank under the drivers' seat by the way

I've also checked the wiring and the low fuel light works okay, the earth to the sender is fine, the live to the gauge is okay and so is the wire going from the sender to the gauge.

My dad spoke to an auto electrician who said there might be a voltage stabilizer unit for the gauge which might not be working? I've searched for that and I can only find threads about Series motors...

Any help?

From my problems and issues with the Temp Gauge, am I right in saying if you HAVE earthed the gauge, it'll read at full scale deflection all the time .. ( i.e read 'full' ) ?
and perform effectively like a voltmeter...

JM will know :D

As it is now the the gauge isn't earthed except through the sender unit. I've even tried wiring it up outside the dashboard, so live from battery to gauge, wire from gauge to sender and earth straight from sender to body. Is there anything else in the system that needs to be there?
