I made my own heat exchanger plumbed into the heater pipe, it's as near to the injector pump as possible.
That filter heater will take a long time to have any effect and it draws a hefty 100 amps, add to that the lights, heater fan etc it's going to be quite a strain on the alternator.
which filter heater draws 100 amps? thats a hell of a lot for an average alternator to supply.... given many are 65 asmp alternators.....
the one i linked heats in a matter of 45 seconds or so and has 2 x 170 glow plugs so 340 watts / 12 volts has it drawing 29 amps?? hence the 50 amp relay it comes with
if i start the motor and switch it on you hear a change in engine note as the warm oil reaches the cylinders in around 2 minutes, usually as i'm half way through scraping the ice off the windows and well before i drive off..... heater pipe ones are no use until the engine is warm.... and that takes a while in a diesel in cold weather... but can be good once your up to temp...
cheers steve
