Hi all can someone just clarify my situation regarding my fuel filter on my 2001 TD4 freelander.

i have an option of 2 to chose from so my motor factors tell me the 1st is like an screw on oil filter the second is like a long narrow filter with pipe connectors on each end any idea which one i need??

also hearing conflicting reports regarding the location of the said filter is it in the engine bay under the osr wheel arch or under seat in the fuel tank?? any info would be good already done a search and can't find nothing deffo.
cheers skoda

If it's for the service it's the underbonnet filter - good luck!

Hi Skoda

It doesn't take that long to change the under bonnet filter, just put something absorbent under it when you do change it, as a little fuel will come out. There is a single screw holding the filter bracket to the car body. Remove the screw, then carefully remove the filter by removing the pipework from it (it's push fit type), keeping it upright so as not to spill any fuel. Remove the plastic top from the old filter body, fit the new filter to it, then refit and push pipes back in. it's fairly straightforward ;)

Cheers Crockett i will give it a go once the bloody rain stops:mad:

Forgot to add, skoda. The bracket screw removal is purely so you have a bit more room to remove the pipes, the bracket will still be attached to the secondary pump. I think that's all I've forgotten to mention..........

so i can leave the secondary pump in situ then and just replace/remove the old fuel filter.
tell me if you can what is under the osr wheel arch on my 2001 hippo??
cheers skoda

With regard to the secondary pump, yes you can leave it in place; I did.
What you have under your rear arch is the primary pump. Meant to be a pig to change because of crud and rust. My primary is under the rear seat, meaning my 01 FL must be an early one.

Right the rain has finally stopped so i thought i would make hay while the sun shines.
it looks like i have been given the wrong filter as if i am looking in the right place under the bonnet on the right hand side, see 1st pic is this the fuel filter?? the one i have marked wiith red paint??? (if so it looks like the the old type screw on filter a bit like an oil filter type??
This is the filter i have been given from my motor factors see second pic
any help would be good
cheers Skoda

At last managed to replace the fuel filter in my car what a pig to do (maybe it was just the way i did it)

the fuel filter support brackett is a nightmare to get back on (ended up nearly taking the fuse box off to get it back on but managed in the end)
that's one job out the way for the next 20,000 miles or so:D

Just read your thread Skoda........ it was the wrong filter. Well done mate. Much more satisfying when you do it yourself. And yes you're right, getting the screw back into the bracket and attaching it to the body is a freaking pain, but worth it :)
