Got a bloody leak on me Disco TD5 !!!.

First indication of a problem was the rear screen covered in diesel.

Had it on the jacks, and found that the return line has been chaffed through by some unclipped wiring, ( also chaffed but not through ), where the lines go on top of the cross member onto the top of the tank.

Don't know if anyone has experience of this, but my questions are;

1. Can the damaged section be cut out and repaired ?. ( or is it a new pipe section ? ).

2. If I have to take the tank out, what do I need to look out for, how easy is it ?.

I have tried to search for these answers, but nothing came up !.

Cheers

I would replace the pipe from point to point unless that involves a lot of work and expence, then i would do a repair joint a bit of copper pipe and some hose clips or a rubber sleeve and clips, it depends on if the original fuel hose is plastic or rubber.

I have only removed a tank from a Range Rover and that was easy. Just undo all the hose clips, the electrical fuel sender connection and undo the the tank supports, if u have a tow bar then this may have to be removed as it does on a D1.

Thanks for your reply discool.

I,ve just found a " pictures an all " explanation of the problem and how to rectify it on another Land Rover forum.

Seems that chaffing fuel lines were a common fault on the Disco TD5.

Looks like a fairly straight forward job.

Cheers.

Hi 50 pence, if u can post the link u found it would be handy for other Td5 owners.
Regards

The whole job took about 3 hours.

Replaced all 4 pipes for £ 56.00 !

Thats 400 plus pounds that a Land Rover dealer wont be getting out of me !!.

My Disco has the same problem I think - Diesel leaking under the offside rearwheel arch and misting all over the back of the car. Where's the best place to get the fuel pipes from?

Cheers

Thanks Discool and 50 pence, I might have a go and see if they are convered on the warranty, if not I'll follow up your suggestions.
